The W Paris is Now Delayed Until December 1

The E-WOW Suite at W Paris. Look but don't touch until December 1st.
Just a few months ago, we were so excited that the W Paris had set an opening date of July 1, 2011. But we should have known better. This is W after all.

Looking on the hotel's website today, we see that the opening date has been moved to December 1. Boo! It also doesn't look like W has added any new info about the property.

So as far as we know it will still be 90 rooms (stocked with Bliss toiletries) near the Garnier Opera House, the Galeries Lafayette Haussman and Printemps and will have a W Cafe on-site as well as a restaurant of "culinary perfection."

In the meantime, we will just set our affections on the Mandarin Oriental Paris which is still set to open this summer.

Legendary Hotel is Celebrity Address for Cannes Film Festival & Monaco Grand Prix

For a century, the iconic Grand-Hotel du Cap-Ferrat on the French Cote D'Azur has been a legendary retreat for tycoons, aristocrats, film stars, politicians, artists and writers.

Now the newly-restored grand palace is again a magnet for elite international guests; convenient for attending such star-studded international events as the Monaco Grand Prix and Cannes Film Festival yet discreetly secluded in its own manicured Mediterranean estate.

Celebrated for world-class cuisine and unique luxury and elegance, Grand-Hôtel du Cap-Ferrat is just a 25-minute drive from Monaco, 50 minutes from Cannes and 30-minutes from Nice International Airport for frequent international flight connections.

Reopening is therefore especially timely this springtime as the South of France becomes a celebrity Mecca hosting Europe's premier social highlights of the year.

Monaco hosts the "jewel of the Formula One crown" attracting the world's rich and famous and most renowned super yachts from May 13-16.

At the same time, the 63rd annual Cannes Film Festival is the epicentre of the world’s film industry from May 12-23, as movie stars and film producers descend to launch and distribute the latest movies.

Grand-Hôtel du Cap-Ferrat is not surprisingly a premier address for those attending these world-class events.

Over the past one hundred years illustrious guests have included the novelist Somerset Maugham, Charlie Chaplin, Winston Churchill, Aristotle Onassis, Picasso, David Niven, Paul McCartney and Frank Sinatra.

Today, that tradition continues at Grand-Hôtel du Cap-Ferrat with re-opening following expansion styled by internationally acclaimed designer Pierre-Yves Rochon.

Along with a new wing is a world class destination spa and new La Véranda restaurant complementing redesign of famed Michelin star Restaurant Le Cap, renowned for one of the world’s most spectacular wine collections, now opening onto a terrace with breathtaking views over the Mediterranean.

Deluxe suites include the Pine View, with a delightful terrace overlooking a pine grove and the hotel gardens, suites with private swimming pools, and the truly magnificent, one of a kind Roof Top Suite sumptuously decorated by architect Alberto Pinto, with panoramic views over the Mediterranean from its grandiose terrace.

The penthouse Cocteau Suite has an enormous 110m² terrace with stunning views over the Mediterranean from Nice to Monaco.

Grand-Hôtel du Cap-Ferrat is a member of The Leading Small Hotels of the World.

Chateau Eza Hotel, Eze, Cote d'Azur, France

WHEN TO GO

Even more than most European destinations, there's a world of difference between the high season and the off-season on the Côte d'Azur. Crowds are intense in summer the entire length of the coast, and that's how those who come here like it. If you prefer to have an escape option—or you plan on trying some of the top restaurants without having reserved two years ago—you should avoid July and definitely August. May means the Cannes Film Festival and the Monaco Grand Prix. Rates everywhere are doubled, tripled, and more. June and September are probably the nicest months, still with abundant sunshine and nothing closed; mid-September also features the vendanges (wine harvests). The off season has its fans—increasingly so. The climate is Mediterranean—meaning tepid, wet winters—but you must take into account the mistral, a biting, moaning wind rumored to drive people insane, or at least off the beach. Mistral aside, springtime is lovely with temperatures in the 50s.

HOW TO GET THERE

Nice Côte d'Azur is France's second largest airport with direct flights from New York (33-4-89-88-98-28; www.nice.aeroport.fr). High Speed trains link the coast with many parts of Europe via Paris—which the TGV Méditerranée reaches in just over five and a half hours (www.tgv.com). By road, it takes between eight and nine hours to drive to Nice from Paris.
